We’re Just Drifters at Sea.....

“When you choose us, it means you’ve chosen to trust us.”
Sometimes, people see being a freediving coach as being part of the service industry.
But here at Whale Eye, from day one,
we’ve always seen what we do as part of the education industry.
Because when you have enough expertise,
professionalism naturally becomes something you care deeply about.
If, in your world, you expect everything to be yours before you’ve even taken a class—
constantly asking for discounts,
changing your mind over and over,
making commitments to a shop and then breaking them,
placing orders and repeatedly cancelling them while demanding full refunds,
or expecting endless extras…
Then perhaps Whale Eye simply isn’t the right choice for you.
Yes, there are times when we choose not to accept certain students,
whether before or during a course.
Because we hope that everyone who comes to us is:
Polite. Humble. Willing to learn.
Respectful of professional expertise.
Safety-conscious.
And aligned with the values we believe in.
Here at Whale Eye, our team has the full authority to choose the people we work with.
We hope that when you encounter professionals,
you approach them with respect.
There may be many things in the market that make you question or wonder.
And that’s okay.
You can have doubts when you first come to us.
Ask us your questions.
We will always use our professional knowledge
to answer them, explain them,
and give you enough understanding
to make you feel confident in your choice.
But if we’ve already gone beyond education
and provided additional services and added value,
those things are extras—not entitlements.
If those extras become something you simply expect as a matter of course,
we have every right to take them back.
And we have every right to say no.
Because respect and understanding have to go both ways.
With tourism in Taiwan slowing down,
Hengchun’s tourism industry taking another hard hit,
and summer typhoons adding another layer of uncertainty…
This industry is already difficult enough.
If you think that means you can ask us
for even more course content,
more discounts,
and even more additional services—
Then honestly, thank you. 😅
Because at Whale Eye,
the value of our freediving, mermaid, and water dance courses
has always gone far beyond what the course fee alone can represent.
The people who truly understand our value
have always been our students.
And many of those students
have gradually become our friends. ❤️
That’s what Whale Eye has been doing
for more than five years.
And we’re incredibly proud
of the courage and principles
we’ve held onto along the way.
To everyone who continues to accompany Whale Eye—
thank you. ❤️
We will never let the people who hurt us,
or the times we’ve ended up losing money,
make us give up on this industry
or on all the wonderful people we’ve met through it.
We’ll simply become more and more ourselves.
There are many coaches and shops in this industry
working just as hard as we are.
We sincerely hope that everyone
can treat these hardworking people with kindness.
Surviving is already difficult.
Holding on to your principles is even harder.
P.S. I’m MATT, the founder of cetacea.
These are simply some thoughts I’ve had over the past few days.
May all of us
keep getting better and better. ❤️
